With its multimedia support, HDMI cable is able to support many kinds of applications from HD TV signals to Gaming consoles. At the same time HDMI can also support DVI video signals. This means that except for the different shape of the connector the HDMI cable can carry DVI signals easily. This is perfect because that means that you do not have to upgrade your video sources to support HDMI all you need is a means to transmit DVI signals over HDMI. This is where this cable becomes so useful.

You would have to use this cable along with a separate audio connection. But when you consider that you can now use your existing DVI source of video with a HDTV without any fuss, adding an audio connection seems nothing.
