I was browsing the internet when I saw some big diamonds owned by very highly successful people and corporations, even by royals. The glistening and gemstones are installed in very fine, beautiful settings. I checked out my own diamond engagement ring on my finger and smiled. I was bemused as I remembered the day my husband gave it to me on our engagement celebration. I was so happy at that time and I'm still blissfully married to the same loving man. A couple of years later, he told me that he acquired my ring from the many unique diamond engagement rings displayed in many stores. I started to like and treasure the diamond rings and necklaces he gave me and I valued diamonds all the more.
I don't mind if the diamond is part of a ring, pendant, brooch, band or some other kind of setting. I merely like to see the gleaming beauty of the diamond in it. Today I'm surfing the internet, I am reading fascinating details about the seven biggest diamonds that have been mined. The biggest diamond ever found is the Cullinan diamond. It weighed 3,106.75 carats. It was Thomas Evan Powell who came upon the stone in 1905, and the diamond was named after Sir Thomas Cullinan. He was the one who owns Premier Mine in South Africa. For the reason that technology was not high tech at that time, Asscher Brothers cut the diamond. The resulting two stones, the Cullinan 1 (Great Star of Africa) and Cullinan 2 (Lesser Star of Africa) are now a part of UK's Crown Jewels.
The second biggest diamond is the Excelsior Diamond found by Kaffir, a miner, in June 1893 in Jagersfontein Mine located in South Africa. Smaller than the Cullinan but no less regal, the Excelsior weighed 970 carats. The third largest rough diamond is the Star of Sierra Leone obtained in February 1972 in the Diminco mine. Rumor has it that the Star of Sierra Leone is one of the 13 flawless diamonds which are cut from the first stone. The Star of Sierra Leone is in the kind of a brooch.
The Incomparable Diamond weighing 890 carats was considered the fourth largest diamond. A little girl found it in a debris field near Congo's MIBA Diamond Mine. It was a big diamond with brown hues. At 787.5 carats, the Great Mogul Diamond gets its place as the fifth largest diamond in the world. It was found in 1650 in Southern India. Shah Jahan, Emperor of India, received the stone as a gift from Emir Jemla. Taj Mahal was built by Shah Jahan as a burial site for his beloved wife, Mumtaz Mahal. World rewowned jeweler Jean Baptiste Tavernier once said, "The stone is of the same form as if one cut an egg through the middle."
The sixth biggest rough diamond is the Millennium Star weighing 777 carats. It was the Steinmetz Diamond Group that cut the stone. It was spotted in 1990 from the mine of Mbuji-Mayi district. This is in Zaire. Currently, the owner of the diamond is De Beers. The seventh largest rough diamond is the Golden Jubilee which was discovered in the Premier mine located in South Africa. The stone has 755.5 carats. The stunning collection of great diamond rings uk around the globe has greatly made me delighted.
